Election Central today published the results of a new Survey USA poll (Survey USA graph shown above), and it is not good news for Senator Larry Craig—unless he can take comfort in the fact that a whopping 29% of Idahoans think the embattled lawmaker should serve out his term but not run again. An additional 17% think Craig should serve out his term and run again. (They must have just returned from vacation in remote places like Papua New Guinea.)
The "good news" is that "only" 52% think he should quit now and "only" 54% say his criminal conviction should stand. (Blogonaut would have predicted these numbers to be much higher.)
When asked to rate their respect for the toilet trolling Senator on a 1 to 10 scale, the largest group (30%) gave Craig the lowest score possible. Ouch!
UPDATE: Senator Arlen Specter continues to defend Senator Craig, yesterday stating that Craig's conviction does not disqualify the Idaho lawmaker from retaining his senate seat Idaho Local News 8 reported today at 6:54 PM ET. (Link here.) This sordid saga is sure to drag on for weeks or months as Craig clings to the office he still holds.
