NEVADA’S JUDICIAL WATCHDOG AGENCY FILES FORMAL CHARGES AGAINST NOTORIOUS 500 LB VEGAS JURIST

BREAKING NEWS

This weekend broke the news that embattled, and temporarily suspended Las Vegas jurist Elizabeth Halverson filed an emergency request with the Nevada Supreme Court seeking to be unsuspended in time to run for reelection.

Halverson’s pending Supreme Court petition asserts that disciplinary authorities have violated her right to due process by suspending her without filing formal charges against her.

Although the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline—the agency that suspended Halverson pending its investigation of ethics charges against her—has not yet answered Halverson’s recent court filing, it did file formal ethics charges against her today.

The Formal Statement of Charges served today on Halverson’s counsel outlines fourteen categories of misconduct against the judicial heavyweight that the Las Vegas Review Journal has referred to as “Jabba the Judge”.

The formal charges include exparte contacts with a Family Court Hearing Master without the knowledge or consent of the parties, falling asleep on the bench during three separate legal proceedings, exparte conversations with deliberating jurors, inappropriate statements to the media about pending matters, refusing—without explanation—to sign draft proposed orders, sexual harassment of Halverson bailiff Jonnie Jordan—by yelling, requiring Jordan to rub her feet, profanity, and 23 other instances of inappropriate conduct, creating a hostile work environment (including by calling a court employee a “faux Jew”, by requiring a court clerk to swear in Halverson’s husband so Halverson could examine him about household chores, calling her husband a “stupid son of a bitch” in front of staff, and calling another staff member “the evil one” and another court employee an “idiot”), breaches of courthouse security, attempting to hack into the courthouse private email system, and by refusing to cooperate with the chief judge and others acting under her.

While many of the charges have been aired previously in various legal proceedings initiated by Halverson, this is the first time that the scooter driven jurist has been accused of hiring others to hack into the courthouse computer system.

Stay tuned. Judge Halverson is anything but boring.
